Casper

Casper

Synopsis of Saturday Morning Show

The most recent version of Harvey Comics’ classic “Friendly Ghost” followed the success of the 1995 live-action film Casper. The show still centered around the comic book’s young boy ghost and his uncles—the “Ghostly Trio” of Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso—but new characters from the movie were also brought in.

Kat Harvey was a human teenage girl who befriended Casper when she and father Dr. James Harvey moved into Whipstaff Manor, the ghosts’ haunting grounds. Dr. Harvey worked as a “ghost therapist,” trying (unsuccessfully) to rehabilitate the mischief-making Ghostly Trio.

The new Casper broke from earlier versions, following a sitcom-style pattern of one-liners and pop culture gags. Apparently the update worked, as Casper hit the top of the ratings chart for children’s animation in its first of two seasons on the air.
