Synopsis of Saturday Morning Show
Yes, she was He-Man's sister, but they had a lot more in common than just genetics. She-Ra was essentially a female version of her brother, living in a parallel world with similar enemies, weapons and friends.
She-Ra, known to most as Princess Adora, lived in the land of "Etheria"—as opposed to He-Man's "Eternia"—and fought to protect the magical Crystal Castle against a variety of villains. The predominant baddie was Hordak, who had come from the Horde World and had succeeded in conquering most of Etheria.
Whenever her services were needed, the Princess would raise her "Sword of Protection" in the air and shout, “For the honor of Greyskull!” Then, both she and her horse, Spirit, would instantly transform into magically-enhanced versions of themselves (Spirit became the wonderhorse Swiftwind).
The only people who knew the truth behind She-Ra’s identity were her friends Lighthope, Madame Razz and her owl-like protector Kowl. Another significant friend of the heroine was the Tinkerbell-esque Loo-Kee, who would take a moment at the end of each episode to share a positive message with the young viewers.
Like her brother's show, She-Ra was a collaborative effort on the part of Filmation and Mattel toys, and every character that became popular on the screen quickly found its way to the toy shelves.
For some reason, She-Ra was taken less seriously than He-Man, and the series was deliberately infused with a constant dose of humor. One of the strongest running jokes of the series would occur when Skeletor, He-Man's nemesis, would make a guest appearance on the show and invariably end up bickering with Hordak over every little thing.
Even though She-Ra will always be “He-Man’s sister,” she was also a strong female who was able to succeed without the help of any male authority figures. Though she may have resembled her brother a little too closely, she also inherited the family bravery, skill and heroism, becoming an invaluable role model for many young girls of the 80's.
