Black leotards

Fashion Synopsis
Beatniks unveiled the slinky style of the leotard and shook up the establishment when they boldly wore the dancer's uniform as part of their casual fashion. The beats rebelled against the conservative 'squares,' and nothing was more shocking than the skintight fashion of all black. The long-sleeved scoop neck leotard was worn with loose, gathered skirts and sandals. The body-conscious suit never really broke out into the mainstream (which was exactly the point), but it did foreshadow the swinging 60's style of revealing wear.
