Going Bananas
Synopsis of Saturday Morning Show
This Saturday morning sitcom was based on one undeniable premise…monkeys are funny. In this case, that formula also applied to orangutans. Roxana Banana was an orangutan who was left in the care of James Cole and his sister Louise. The zany antics were endless, as Roxana was adept at every simian gag ever created. The comedy quotient was amped up by the efforts of resident boobs Hubert and Hank to capture Roxana.
This series was created in the wake of popular “ape movies” such as Clint Eastwood’s Every Which Way But Loose and Tony Danza's Going Ape. Unfortunately, the monkey factor wasn't enough to ensure a long life for Going Bananas, which went back to the animal farm after less than three months.
One interesting casting note: Bill Saluga, who played Hubert, was popular in the 70’s for his character Raymond Jay Johnson, Jr. ("You can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay...")
