Synopsis of Saturday Morning Show

This show was Sid and Marty Krofft’s “Rock ‘n Roll Love Letter” to Saturday morning audiences. Featuring The Bay City Rollers, a band from Scotland who got their name by throwing a dart at a map and hitting Bay City, Michigan, the show was billed as a comedy variety hour.

Originally titled The Krofft Superstar Hour, the show changed its name after two months to draw attention to its stars. In addition to hosting duties, the Rollers acted in sketches with characters from previous Krofft productions, like Witchiepoo from H.R. Pufnstuf and Dr. Shrinker and Hugo from The Krofft Supershow. The setting for some sketches was Horror Hotel, a very spooky place, indeed.

The show also featured the character Hoo-Doo from Lidsville, a role originated by Charles Nelson Reilly, but played in this incarnation by Paul Gale.

The ratings were less than spectacular, and NBC cut the show down to a half hour at the same time as the name change. The Rollers said to NBC, “I Only Wanna Be With You,” but unfortunately, NBC felt it was all about “Money Honey,” and cancelled the show after another two months.
