The debate still lingers on...are toe socks just too cool for school, or are the rainbow striped knee socks with individual toe compartments the sign of ultimate geekdom?
Toes were tired of communal socks, and they demanded to be slipped into separate quarters (at least, that’s what we assume they were saying). Toes socks were the biggest fad of the 70's, when it seemed no sock could battle it out against the striped-top tube sock. Unless, of course, like the toe sock, the big selling point was a snug little toe sweater for each and every digit. Now that's progress.
Whether rainbow-striped or solid, the toe sock was a nifty novelty that kept the sock world on its toes. Rad or sad? Who cares what anyone else thinks?
