Tennis skirt

Tennis skirt

Fashion Synopsis

The 70’s served up a fascination for sports, and tennis made the cut. Flirty little tennis skirts were worn on and off the courts, with colorful pom-pom socks and sun visors finishing off the fashion.

Tennis whites were the ultimate in crisp, clean style. Tennis was America’s favorite sport, and ever since the days of the Great Gatsby, the cable-knit tennis sweater and white pants and skirts had symbolized the good life. When tennis moved from a privileged sport to a mere casual game of fun and fashion, tennis clothing scored with girls.

During the miniskirt craze of the 60’s, girls took to wearing their tennis skirts as outerwear. The thigh-grazing tennis skirt hid a pair of short shorts underneath for both function and fashion. From the early days of the pleated skirt to the flat skort of the 60's and 70's, it was a delightful, sporty style served up for the active gal.
