Super Friends

Synopsis of Lunch Box

Meanwhile, back at the lunchroom of justice… When that tummy trouble alert went off, any kid with dreams of superhero-dom reached for Aladdin’s Super Friends lunchbox with matching plastic thermos. DC Comics’ assemblage of heroes had been fighting crime on the Saturday morning screen since 1973, and by the time this lunchbox was released in 1976, somebody had already decided that Marvin, Wendy and Wonder Dog weren’t cool enough to make the cut.

In their place came Batgirl and Supergirl; two ladies whose good looks and evil-stomping abilities more than made up for the fact that they weren’t really on the show. To balance out the cast of regulars and semi-regulars—Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman & Robin, Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow and Hawkman—those rabble rousers at Aladdin threw on a few supervillains as well: The Joker, The Penguin, The Riddler, Cheetah and Catwoman. Great Hera!
