Fashion Synopsis

Did you know that nearly five million Americans have reported alien experiences, most of which are tales of alien abduction?

The little green men that were going to take over the world after Orson Welles’ famous 1938 radio broadcast of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds finally arrived…and only half a century late. Maybe they took a wrong turn at Saturn.

Humans have always been fascinated with outer space and the question of alien existence “out there.” In the 90’s, fashion faced the fears and confronted the curiosity with a celebration of alien life. Aliens really did take over the world—they were everywhere. The wide-eyed, teardrop-shaped visages stared out from t-shirts, baseball caps, and just about anything their bug-eyed faces could be on.

In that star-friendly decade, aliens became celebrities in their own right, starring in movies like Men in Black and TV shows like The X-Files. Alien watchers took up the mantra “I Want To Believe,” and those alien logo tees were the perfect way to show off that belief. The rage faded a bit toward the end of the decade, but countless sighting and abduction stories in the supermarket checkout counter rags remain reminders for believers and haunting teasers for the uninitiated. But whatever you do, don’t disbelieve…because they just might be watching you right now.
