Remember Neck scarf

Neck scarf

Fashion Synopsis

That same pretty chiffon square that made a smart hair tie for the ponytail looked even better when softly draped around the neck and tied for a jaunty fold-over style. This neckerchief look was influenced by the kerchief style of cowboys from the Western movies that were all the rage of the 50’s.

Proper young girls of the 50’s did not wear necklaces, unless they were the wearing their beau’s class ring on a string around their neck. The neck scarf allowed a very sophisticated look when the classic bejeweled choker style of their mother was too dressy. Peggy Sues loved to wear their sweet scarves with their sweater sets, or with an oxford shirt topped by a cardigan. There never was a better neck accessory.
