The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland
Synopsis of Movie
“You’re as special as you think you are.”
For their third feature film, the lovable, huggable Care Bears brought their special brand of warm fuzziness straight into the heart of Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland. Borrowing not only from Carroll, but from L. Frank Baum (The Wizard of Oz) and the Brothers Grimm, The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland took its wee audience through the looking glass and into a world of non-threatening adventure.
The adventure begins when an evil Wizard kidnaps the Princess of Wonderland. The Wizard apparently has a zero-tolerance policy on nuttiness, and Wonderland is exactly the sort of place he can’t stand. Tenderheart, Grumpy, Good Luck and the other Care Bears (along with cousins Lots-A-Heart Elephant, Brave Heart Lion and Swift Heart Rabbit) are called in to save the day, but they can’t do it without the help of a special little girl named Alice.
Alice doesn’t think she’s very special, but the bears know just how to cure those blahs. With Alice’s help, the gang tracks down familiar Wonderland faces like the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat, then set out for a climactic (non-threateningly climactic) showdown with the Wizard.
The Care Bears’ movie careers ended with The Care Bears Adventure in Wonderland, but the gang lived on as cartoons, plush dolls and greeting card spokesbears, continuing to spread cheer and self-esteem to anyone in need.
