Movie Review

Synopsis of Movie

That’s right, kids: Fred Flintstone… Superspy. The Man Called Flintstone came at the end of The Flintstones[’ six-year primetime run, continuing the adventures of the world’s favorite “modern Stone Age family.” Spoofing the spy genre decades before Austin Powers (but one year after Our Man Flint), the animated feature took Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty into the arena of international intrigue.

The adventure kicks off when Chief Boulder, head of the Stone Age Secret Service, discovers Fred is an exact double for ace spy Rock Slag. The S.A.S.S. chief sends our man Flintstone off to Paris to find the evil Green Goose, head of the crime syndicate SMIRK.

Wilma, Barney and Betty come along for what they think is simply a Eurorock vacation, unaware of Fred’s true purpose. After fending off well-trained thugs and sexy femmes, Fred follows the Goose’s trail to Rome, sinking ever deeper into the Goose’s mysterious lair…

The Man Called Flintstone was the second feature from Hanna-Barbera. Like the earlier Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear, the film made only a minor splash in theaters, finding its greatest success in matinee revivals and 16mm rentals for birthday parties, church picnics and the like.
