Johnny Lightning

Synopsis of Lunch Box
In the golden age of die-cast cars, when Matchbox and Hot Wheels were miniature status symbols for young boys, a lesser known, but still sublime, line of cars was the Johnny Lightning series. Johnny Lightning was more about speed than status for aspiring neighborhood hot rodders. In 1970, Aladdin produced this metal Johnny Lightning lunchbox with matching plastic thermos. The artwork depicts Johnny Lightning cars drag racing around the living room floor on one side, and kids watching their cars race on a plastic track on the other. A close look at the box reveals that the children racing their cars are wearing protective headgear. Safety first!
