Before piercing your body became as common as braces, the ear cuff allowed you a rebellious look without the pain of piercing needles.
The ear cuff was a bendable circular piece of metal that could be squeezed onto the top rim of your ear. The designs varied from simple hoops to strange wrap-around wires favored by the gothic subculture.
The look was shocking and tough, but for the less rebellious, it could be removed before you returned home at curfew time.
