Originally a comic strip created by Johnny Gruelle circa 1914, Raggedy Ann has been a fixture of American culture ever since. The comic strip was eventually merchandised as a popular series of dolls. In the 1970's, Raggedy Ann and her equally Raggedy brother, Andy, went through a merchandising renaissance and saw newfound popularity. Responding to demand in 1973, Aladdin produced a metal lunchbox with matching plastic thermos, giving the once purposefully ragged dolls a sturdier, more functional form.
