Jetsons: The Movie

Jetsons: The Movie

Synopsis of Movie

George Jetson, his boy Elroy, daughter Judy, Jane his wife, and all the rest of Hanna-Barbera’s popular Jetsons characters came to the big screen in 1990, almost three decades after their prime time television debut. The feature film stayed true to its 1960’s nuclear family roots, but threw in some 90’s lessons on environmental responsibility.

Spacely Sprockets, always looking to expand its share of the sprockets market, has established a factory on a remote asteroid outpost. The company is anxious to produce its one-millionth sprocket, but someone or something is sabotaging the works. Hot-tempered Mr. Spacely promotes hapless George to Vice-President (without a pay raise) and ships him and the family out to discover and fix the problem. No one’s happy to leave home and friends, especially teen queen Judy, but duty calls.

Arriving at the factory, George and family find the source of the trouble, a race of cute little critters called Grungies. It seems the little guys are threatened by the industrial development, and unless George can work out a solution, both he and the Grungies will be left out in the cold.

Hoping to ride the popularity of teen singing star Tiffany, the filmmakers cast her as Judy Jetson, providing a host of MTV-ready tunes to sing in the film. Jetsons: The Movie also featured the final performance of legendary voice artist Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and countless others. The film was dedicated to Mr. Blanc and to Daws Butler, the original voice of Elroy Jetson, who died in 1988.
