For years The Smurfs have been loved by generation after generation, but now they make it to the big screen again. We say again as in 1976 they made it with the\u00a0<em><a title=\"Smurfs 1976 movie\" href=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/categories\/movies\/mv1382.htm\">The Smurfs and the Magic Flute\u00a0<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cartoonist Pierre Culliford (known to the world as Peyo) debuted the Smurfs in 1958 in Belgium\u2019s Le Journal de Spirou. The rest is Smurf history.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 Smurf movie has some famous names providing voices to each Smurf. But that cleverness is marred by toilet-humor scenes that feel shoehorned in just to get the film a PG rating.<\/p>\n<h2>Smurf Memories<\/h2>\n<p>Do you remember the original 1983\u00a0<a title=\"smurf lunch box\" href=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/categories\/lunchboxes\/lb1291.htm\">Smurf Lunch Box<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0King Seeley Thermos<\/p>\n<p>How about the Smurfs original movie in 1976 <em><a title=\"Smurfs 1976 movie\" href=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/categories\/movies\/mv1382.htm\">The Smurfs and the Magic Flute<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Everything went <a title=\"Smurf cartoon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/categories\/saturday\/sa1206.htm\">Smurf in the 1980s<\/a> &#8211; they were on cereals, gas, adverts, chocolate bars, you name it the world went Smurf-itus\u00a0Perhaps the most memorable feature of the show was the use of the word \u201csmurf\u201d in every possible tense and construction. For instance, it wouldn\u2019t be unusual to hear a Smurf remark something like, \u201cIt\u2019s such a smurfy day, I think I\u2019ll go smurfing in Lake Smurf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But right back in 1958 you could see the Smurfs growing in popularity, but only in the 1980&#8217;s did the Smurf-mania take a grip.
