Paul &amp; Ruth Tripp\u00a0moved back to NYC.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>They hoped that they would find better acting jobs in\u00a0NYC.Eventually,he was invited by tv producers:Lester Lewis\u00a0and Alton Alexander to audition for a new kids tv series that\u00a0the two showmen were developing for WNBC TV Ch.4 in NYC.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1993\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1993\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1993\" title=\"birthday-house\" src=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house.jpg\" alt=\"Birthday House 1960s TV series from Paul and Ruth Tripp - Saturday Morning Kids TV Shows\" width=\"500\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house.jpg 500w, http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house-160x127.jpg 160w, http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house-300x238.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house-377x300.jpg 377w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1993\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Birthday House from Paul and Ruth Tripp - Saturday Morning Kids TV Shows<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tripp came to Lewis&#8217; office and won the audition&#8230;the heads\u00a0of Ch.4 picked up the show and&#8221;Birthday House&#8221;offically opened\u00a0to the public on Monday morning April 1,1963.<\/p>\n<p>Set against the backdrop of an enchanted cottage in the\u00a0woods.Tripp and his wife and their two asistants:Jan Lara and\u00a0Kay Lande would engage a studio audience of pre-school kids\u00a0in games,songs,stories,craftmaking,informational segments and\u00a0interviews with guest performers and personalities.<\/p>\n<p>A young fellow with a robot..would demonstarte his abilities\u00a0to the children and join them and Tripp in the&#8221;Every Stretch&#8221;exercise\u00a0song,Actresses:Pat Crowley and Barbara Feldon(Ms.Crowley was then\u00a0appearing on The NBC\/MGM TV version of&#8221;Please Don&#8217;t Eat The Daises&#8221;\u00a0and Ms.Feldon played secret agent &#8220;99&#8221; on &#8220;The Get Smart Show&#8221;) and<br \/>\nRingling Brothers Circus Clown Lou Jaccobs..would dress up Paul Tripp\u00a0as a clown on camera.<\/p>\n<p>There was also puppet skits that were performed by Mr.Tom\u00a0Tichenor and Mr.Tichenor would also appear on the show as\u00a0&#8220;Strawtop The Silent Scarcrow Doll&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The series also featured drawing lessions with&#8221;Whitey The\u00a0Talking chalk board&#8221;,&#8221;TC The Talking Toy Chest&#8221;would speak to\u00a0the kids and at the end of the show &#8220;Mr.Knock Knock&#8221; would give\u00a0presents to the kids and &#8220;Mrs.Oven&#8221; would announce that the birthday<br \/>\ncake was ready and Mr.Tripp would bring out the cake..already lit and\u00a0ready to serve to the children.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Tripp knew how to entertain and educate children..but he\u00a0also knew how to discipline any child..who may get out of line on the\u00a0program..in an Interview that I did with him back in October,1979..he\u00a0recalled..that during the preparations for a game with some pinwheels.<\/p>\n<p>One naughty little boy snatched a pinwheel from the birthday\u00a0girl..Tripp noticed this and he confronted the brat..&#8221;Johnny or whatever\u00a0the little fellow&#8217;s name is? that was a very naughty thing that you did&#8221;.<\/p><div class=\"e526d1e761560160a119e3b74cb2a974\" data-index=\"1\" style=\"float: none; margin:5px 0 5px 0; text-align:center;\">\nskool\r\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"autorelaxed\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1609637348681190\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3558122710\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>&#8220;Remember we&#8217;re all here to have fun and to learn here at Birthday\u00a0House..but we&#8217;re also here to learn to share..now..if you don&#8217;t have one of\u00a0these(Tripp held up an extra pinwheel in front of the boy&#8217;s face)then I will\u00a0give one of them to you..but..you must never take anything from anyone and\u00a0you must never hurt anyone..and you hurt that little girl and that is our little\u00a0birthday girl&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The poor little lady was crying and the little boy also began to\u00a0weep.<\/p>\n<p>Tripp noticed and to deal with it he said&#8221;Oh..please don&#8217;t cry\u00a0I don&#8217;t want to be sad here at Birthday House..but you should apologize&#8221;\u00a0..the boy started to aplogize to Mr.Tripp..he stopped him and said&#8221;No..not\u00a0to me..you didn&#8217;t hurt me..but you hurt that little girl and that is our birthday\u00a0girl.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The little boy returned the pinwheel to the birthday girl..he apologized\u00a0and the little lady accepted his apology<\/p>\n<p>Tripp then turned the situation around and he said&#8221;Now! I want to\u00a0shake your hand..because it takes real guts to admit that you were wrong\u00a0and that you were willing to apologize&#8221;. The show received alots of\u00a0postive letters and phone calls from parents and their familes about Tripp&#8217;s\u00a0proper treatment of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>(That interview is sadly lost to history..I am able to recall what Mr.Tripp\u00a0said to me from memory)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Birthday House!&#8221;was a hit with tv viewers Youg and old and\u00a0the station execs at WNBC TV won a special citation from The NYC\u00a0Emmys for the creation,production and presentation of a quality educational\u00a0children&#8217;s tv show in 1964.<\/p>\n<p>The series was seen weekday and saturday mornings both\u00a0locally on WNBC TV Ch.4 in NYC and in national syndication.<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;Paul &amp; Ruth Tripp coninued to entertain,\u00a0educate and helped to celebrate the young visitors&#8217; birthdays..until the heads\u00a0of Ch.4 ended the party following the Friday September 8,1967 broadcast.\u00a0This is Paul &amp; Ruth Tripp&#8217;s last children&#8217;s tv series.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>Following the cancellation of&#8221;Birthday House&#8221;their tv appearances\u00a0were very few.Paul Tripp made guest appearances on &#8220;The Mike Douglas\u00a0Show&#8221;with Rosano Brazzi to help promote their Yultide\/musical fantasy\u00a0film&#8221;The Christmas That Almost Wasn&#8217;t&#8221; and on Bob McAllister&#8217;s version\u00a0of&#8221;Wonderama!&#8221;to help promote Tripp&#8217;s kids&#8217; book&#8221;The Scarecrow Who\u00a0Smiled By Mistake&#8221; and he played Gen.George Washington on an installment\u00a0of NBC TV&#8217;s historical anthology series&#8221;American Rainbow&#8221;:&#8221;The Boston Spy\u00a0Party&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Tripps would concentrate their activities on writting, producing,\u00a0directing, staging and performing in plays and musicals overseas.Tripp would\u00a0also write kids&#8217; books and he would write,produce and narrate a feature length\u00a0animated version of the children&#8217;s musical story that he collaborated on with\u00a0Mr.George Kleinsinger &#8220;Tubby The Tuba&#8221; ..the animated feature length version\u00a0of &#8220;Tubby&#8221; as first seen on HBO in 1983 and it was also seen on &#8220;The Fox Five\u00a0Kids&#8217; Club&#8217;s Christmas Day Party&#8221;TV Special on WNYW TV Ch.5 in NYC on\u00a0Monday December 25,1990.The party was hosted by Craig Marin&#8217;s &#8220;Flexitoon&#8221;<br \/>\nPuppets.<\/p>\n<p>His last tv appearances were on a tv tribute to WCBS TV Ch.2 in NYC\u00a0to help celebrate the station&#8217;s 50th anniversary in 1991 and he played a character\u00a0named&#8221;Mr.Boblob&#8221;on a dramatic tv special.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs.Ruth Tripp died in 1999..her husband..Kids TV&#8217;s first educator\u00a0would pass away on August 29,2002.<\/p>\n<!--CusAds0-->\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<a href=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/birthday-house\/\"><img width=\"125\" height=\"99\" src=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house-160x127.jpg\" class=\"alignright tfe wp-post-image\" alt=\"Birthday House 1960s TV series from Paul and Ruth Tripp - Saturday Morning Kids TV Shows\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house-160x127.jpg 160w, http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house-300x238.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house-377x300.jpg 377w, http:\/\/www.skooldays.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/birthday-house.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 125px) 100vw, 125px\" \/><\/a><p>&#8220;Birthday House!&#8221; Review by Kevin Butler Local: WNBC TV Ch.4 NYC Syndicated: Weekday Mornings and Saturday Mornings: Monday April 1,1963 Friday September 8,1967.
