Keeshan..who had played&#8221;Clarabell The Clown&#8221;,\u00a0&#8220;Chief Featherman&#8221;,&#8221;Prof.Oscar&#8221;and other comedic characters on NBC TV&#8217;s\u00a0Landmark children&#8217;s show..had been abruptly dismissed from the series&#8217; cast\u00a0and he was unemployed.<\/p>\n<p>He accepted their offer to audition for the show and Keeshan\u00a0appeared on the show once again playing a circus clown.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the character of&#8221;Clarabell&#8221;..Keeshan&#8217;s buffoon person &#8220;Corney&#8221;\u00a0on &#8220;Time For Fun&#8221;was a gentle,non slapstickish type..who talked to the child\u00a0at home in a quiet and caring fashion. He would engage them in stories,\u00a0craft-making,\u00a0hobbies, games, informational segments and eat lunch with the viewers..while introducing\u00a0reruns of old movie cartoons and comedies.<\/p>\n<p>The show also had a different backdrop..it was set against a city\u00a0park and&#8221;Corney The Clown&#8221;would take time out from his performances with\u00a0the circus to eat lunch and spend time with the kids at home.<\/p>\n<p>For a time..Keeshan&#8217;s dog &#8220;Pudgey&#8221;would appear with his\u00a0father on the program(the reason that the dog was on the show..was Keeshan\u00a0was unable to find someone to care for the family pet.)and she would add to\u00a0the charm of the program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Keeshan&#8217;s&#8221;Corney The Clown&#8217;would continue to host\u00a0the show..until he left the series following the Friday July 29,1955 broadcast\u00a0..where he would give his time to his local NYC\u00a0based educational kids tv show&#8221;Tinker&#8217;s Workshop&#8221;..which was seen weekday\u00a0mornings on WJZ TV Ch.7 and working with director Jack Miller in creating\u00a0and producing the pilot for&#8221;Captain Kangaroo.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Former Cleveland,Ohio based stage\/radio and tv performer\u00a0Joe Bova..who had mc&#8217;d &#8220;Uncle Joe&#8217;s Clubhouse&#8221;was hired to succeed\u00a0Keeshan as the show&#8217;s second host\/performer,beginning on Monday\u00a0August 1,1955.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Keeshan..Bova didn&#8217;t mc&#8217;d the series as an eleboratly\u00a0dressed up character.He only wore costumes and make up for his skits..he also\u00a0prefered to use his Uncle Joe&#8221;persona..who wore a t shirt,jeans and a derby.<\/p>\n<p>Bova&#8217;s kindly relative character also engaged his viewers in\u00a0song and dance routines,stories, craftmaking,hobbies,informational segments\u00a0and drawing lessions.<\/p><div class=\"e526d1e761560160a119e3b74cb2a974\" data-index=\"1\" style=\"float: none; margin:5px 0 5px 0; text-align:center;\">\nskool\r\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n     style=\"display:block\"\r\n     data-ad-format=\"autorelaxed\"\r\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1609637348681190\"\r\n     data-ad-slot=\"3558122710\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>His version of&#8221;Time For Fun&#8221;was set against the backdrop\u00a0of a make shift neghiborhood clubhouse.<\/p>\n<p>And he would use chromakey and simple props for the\u00a0skits that he performed on the program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Uncle Joe&#8221;would continue to entertain and inform his\u00a0clubhouse members..until he left the series following the Friday December21,\u00a01956 broadcast. (&#8220;Uncle Joe&#8221;Bova would mc one more NYC based kids tv\u00a0show&#8221;The Little Rascals Show&#8221;weekday evenings on WABC TV Ch.7 in\u00a0NYC from 1957..until he left NYC kids tv in the fall of 1960 to return to\u00a0the theater).<\/p>\n<p>Former hotel social director\/nightclub entertainer and\u00a0circus clown:Bill Britten became the third and one of the most popular\u00a0hosts\/performers of &#8220;Time For Fun&#8221;..beginning on Monday December 31,\u00a01956.<\/p>\n<p>Britten began his career in show business\u00a0working for &#8220;Wantashanta Lodge&#8221;on Lake Winemasoka as a social director.\u00a0He also performed in nightclubs, with a puppet theater in Seatle,Wa. and he had been a\u00a0clown..performing first for a gas station franchise in Seatle and later..he did\u00a0his clown act,briefly for Ringing Bros.Barnum &amp; Bailey Circus&#8230;before he\u00a0made his debut in NYC kids tv as the second and last puppeteer and cartoonist\u00a0on WJZ TV Ch.7 NYC&#8217;s:&#8221;Jolly Gene &amp; his Fun Machine&#8221;in 1955.<\/p>\n<p>He also took on the role of a loveable but bumbling\u00a0clubhouse leader named&#8221;Johnny Jellybean&#8221;..who sported a striped, blazer\u00a0wide poka dot bowtie..he also wore either a beanie with a plastic jellybean\u00a0attop the crown or a beat up black top hat.<\/p>\n<p>But? Britten&#8217;s version of&#8221;Time For Fun&#8221;would feature\u00a0a studio audience of children..who would attened every broadcast of his\u00a0version of the series.<\/p>\n<p>The show also had appearances from the clubhouse&#8217;\u00a0mascot&#8221;Props The puppy&#8221;and The lunches were prepared by a nutrisionist\u00a0..who made sure that the meals that &#8220;Johnny Jellybean&#8221;ate were healthy.<\/p>\n<p>The show became an even bigger hit with the viewers\u00a0..adults and kids would watch the program and Britten&#8217;s version of &#8220;Time For\u00a0Fun&#8221;..&#8221;Would beat out (The) broadcast of soap operas in the (NYC) ratings&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Britten would continue to entertain,inform and\u00a0hold meeting on the series..until he left following the Friday August 1,\u00a01958 broadcast to become the third host\/performer of WABD\/WNEW TV\u00a0Ch.5&#8217;s&#8221;Wonderama!&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Former stage and tv performer:Keith Hefner would\u00a0become the fourth and last mc of &#8220;Time For Fun&#8221;.Hefer had hosted his\u00a0own daily kids tv series&#8221;Mr.Toby&#8217;s Tip Top Merry Go Round &#8220;weekday\u00a0mornings on WAAM\/WJZ TV Ch.13 in Baltamore, Md.<\/p>\n<p>One of the station execs from WABC TV Ch.7\u00a0went to Baltamore to watch Hefner&#8217;s program.Impressed by his talents\u00a0and his rapport with his viewers.Hefner was invited to audition for the\u00a0hosting job on &#8220;Time For Fun&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He went to NYC..won the audition and gave\u00a0the station execs at WJZ TV Ch.13 his two week&#8217;s notice and Hefner\u00a0returned to NYC to begin his stint with the show..the show continued to\u00a0ultilize it&#8217;s clubhouse backdrop and screen The Van Burean Movie cartoons<br \/>\nand &#8220;Adventures Of Willie Wonderful&#8221;TV Puppet films.<\/p>\n<p>For a time..Hefner mc&#8217;d &#8220;Time For Fun&#8221; as\u00a0&#8220;JJ Jellybean&#8221;..&#8221;Johnny Jellybean&#8217;s&#8221;Cousin..weekday afternoons\u00a0starting on Monday August 23,1958..a year later.<\/p>\n<p>The show moved to a weekday morning\u00a0timeslot and was retitled&#8221;The Johnny Jellybean Show&#8221;..Hefner\u00a0would mc the show as &#8220;Johnny Jellybean&#8221;2..performing without\u00a0a studio audience..until the station excs finallyed closed down\u00a0&#8220;Johnny Jellybean&#8217;s&#8221;clubhouse for good following the Friday\u00a0June 23,1960 broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>The character of &#8220;Johnny Jellybean&#8221;would be revived\u00a0one last time for another series&#8221;The Johnny Jellybean Theater&#8221;..later\u00a0titled:&#8221;Johnny Jellybean&#8217;s Factory&#8221;for The C TV Network in Canada\u00a0during the early 1960&#8217;s.
